The best film soundtracks of the year so far

Music films are hard to get right. This one does it by focusing on the rehearsal room rather than the stage.

The director spent two years with the band, and it shows: the best moments are small, unplanned and very funny.

The verdict

The soundtrack mixes finished songs with rough demos, so you hear the songs change as the film goes on.

We wanted it to sound like the room we made it in, not like a studio pretending to be a room.
